Aruna Irani one of the famous charming ladies of her time was popular for her positive attitude and broad minded view. She was born in 3rd may 1952 and later at a young age made her debut in the movie Ganga Jamuna in 1961. Aruna is sister of film director Indra Kumar and is married to Kuku Kohli who is also a film director. She acted in several movies like Jahanara (1964), Farz (1967), Upkar (1967) and Aaya Sawan Jhoomke (1969), and pairing with comedian Mehmood in films like Aulad (1968), Humjoli (1970), and Naya Zamana (1971). As time passed she was emotionally in touch with Mehmood and did not concentrate much in the movies and the actors and actresses who worked with her went ahead to greater heights and made their career.
FLEXIBLE CAREER
Irani’s dream to be a heroine could not be a reality but still she kept on her career with her supporting role in many movies like Jeetendra in Farz(1967), Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia in Bobby (1973), Jayaprada in Sargam (1979), Kumar Gaurav in Love Story (1981), Sanjay Dutt in Rocky (1981).Later at her old age she acted for the movies like Hain Sanam, Laxmi, Yeh Dil Aashiqanaa, Censor, Beti No. 1, Bulandi Aaron, Anari No1, Haseena Maan Jaayegi, Hote Hote Pyar Hogaya, Phool Aur Aag, Rajaji, Silsila Hai Pyar Ka, Zulmi, Barood, Iski Topi Uske Sarr, Kudra, Maharaja, Dil To Pagal Hai, Do Ankhen Barah Haath, Ghulam-E-Musthafa, Hamesha, Itihaas, Saat Rang Ke Sapne, Saaz , Aurat, Chhote Sarkar, Ek Tha Raja, Indian Jaan, Rajkumar Rakshak, Ahankar, Kalyug Ke Avtaar, Kartavya, Prem, Raghuveer, Anokha Premyudh Bhagyawan, Brahma, Gopi Kishan, Insaniyat Laadla, Raja Babu, Suhaag, Aansoo Bane Angaray, Chor Aur Chaand, Dhanwaan, Kayda Kanoon,Muqabla, Professor Ki Padosan and Waqt Hamara Hai .
ACHIEVEMENTS
She finally won her first Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for Pet Pyaar Aur Paap (1984). In the late 1980s and 1990s she switched to playing motherly roles, notably in Beta (1992) for which she won her second Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. She also acted in many famous Gujarati films and some way changed trend and played as main protagonist.
TELEVISION CAREER
Irani acted in many television shows like Des Me Nikla Hoga Chand, Mehndi Tere Naam Ki, Tum Bin Jaaoo Kahan, Rabba Ishq Na Howe, Naaginn etc. Her role of Durga in T V serial 'Maayka', a complete negative character that bears resemblance to her character in the film 'Beta'.
